During a nighttime shooting at a party that brought approximately 100 people to a hookah lounge in Southern California, one person was killed, and eight others were injured, authorities said Saturday.

Sgt. Equino Thomas said that San Bernardino police officers deployed late Friday discovered the deceased victim outside the lounge where the party promoted on social media was held in a strip mall east of Los Angeles.

He reported that eight individuals shot and injured were treated in hospitals. He stated that some were transported to hospitals by ambulance while others went independently. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police.

Thomas stated that police did not know if one or multiple individuals fired shots, that no suspects had been apprehended or identified, and that officials were asking for the public's assistance with information to aid the investigation.

After a dispute broke out inside the hookah lounge, he added, individuals fled to the parking area, where additional rounds were fired.

Thomas stated that the victims did not appear to have been intentional targets.
