The Senate, which is controlled by the GOP, hold a rare New Year's Day session to debate the move, which had already been voted for by the House of Representatives. The US$740Billion defense bill was objected by President Donald Trump with couple of added provisons which has been overruled.

Trump wanted to increase COVID-19 relief payments to $2,000 and also to  remove extra protections to 'Big Corps' from section 230.

Trump lashed out the decison on twitter saying,"Our Republican Senate just missed the opportunity to get rid of Section 230, which gives unlimited power to Big Tech companies. Pathetic!!!"

Trump also said military interventions in Places like Afghanistan are costly and ineffective. He also wanted troops to be withdrawn from such areas.

Mitch McConnell Senate leader of the GOP said , that's not what they are focusing on the defense bill.

Trumps objection are very unlike-Trump, as he is supposed to be against social provisons.
