Monday, after an explosion in an Ohio business, more than a dozen individuals were hospitalized.
The Oakwood Village Fire Department reported that thirteen people were sent to the MetroHealth Medical Center hospital before 3 p.m. following an explosion at me: Schumann & Co., a copper alloy production business.
Two of the individuals were reportedly in critical condition. After the explosion, a second person was hurt but not hospitalized.
Witness Stephenie Davis stated on Facebook, "There was a loud explosion followed by debris flying at our building and on the roof, and the entire building shook like an earthquake."
She also tweeted photographs and videos depicting a giant, billowing plume of smoke rising from the factory and damaging nearby cars.
According to Fox 8, several vehicles caught fire as a result.
The majority of the fire was extinguished by 5:00 p.m., according to the Oakwood Village Fire Department.
The reason for the explosion is currently unknown.
"Today, an explosion of unknown origin occurred at our Bedford, Ohio, facility, resulting in employee injuries and significant property damage," I. Schumann and Co. said in a statement released Monday evening.
"Our current efforts are concentrated on assisting the first responders who rushed to assist our employees." Our first focus is the safety and well-being of our employees.
This event follows the derailment of a 150-car train in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this month, which prompted health concerns.
