Police and witnesses say a man was stabbed in the neck with scissors in Times Square on Saturday as people crowded the streets to see the ball drop and usher in the new year.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. on New Year's Eve, a fight broke out between two guys on West 42nd Street and 6th Avenue, according to police.
A tourist from San Diego attending the New Year's Eve celebrations for the first time told The Post that the victim took a pair of scissors from his backpack after being knocked unconscious by an attacker's blow.
The knifeman knocked the other man's weapon from his hands and stabbed him.
"A man carrying a book bag was knocked out. He was searching through his backpack. The one carrying the bag held scissors. He extracted two-inch scissors from his backpack. "The attacker knocked the scissors out of his hand and stabbed him three times in the neck," Brandon, a man who wished to be known only by his first name, claimed.
"He was bleeding heavily from the neck. He caused harm by stabbing him with the scissors... We fled when we noticed him rummaging through the bag."
According to reports, police apprehended the offender and sent the victim to the hospital.
Bailey, the girlfriend of Brandon, said that both combatants appeared inebriated. She stated that the attacker had been seated with a female companion and a case of beer.
Gabriel, a 22-year-old witness, stated a great deal of blood.
Gabriel made a stabbing gesture as he explained, "I was staring at the ball when I witnessed a commotion and saw someone stab someone's neck three times."
"I saw a large amount of blood. Therefore I assume he was stabbed. Everyone was shouting, "Dude, it's not worth it!"
Brandon and Bailey stated that the New Year's Eve attack would prevent them from returning to New York City for another celebration.
"If someone asks me how the ball fell, I'll tell them this story... I can confirm that I witnessed a man stabbed in the neck in New York City. Very characteristic of New York City, said Bailey to The Post.
"I will likely never see the ball drop again."
The scissor stabbing was the second on New Year's Eve in Times Square.
At 11 a.m., a guy was stabbed "roughly eight times" near Seventh Avenue and West 40th Street.
The night before, a guy was stabbed at West 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue, a few blocks away from Times Square.
