Authorities revealed on Wednesday that rapper Takeoff died of gunshot wounds to the head and body following a shooting outside a private party at a downtown Houston bowling alley.
The announcement, which follows an autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston, comes as authorities continue to seek the public's assistance in locating the individual or individuals responsible for the killing of the rapper on Tuesday.
Takeoff's primary cause of death was reported as "penetrating gunshot wounds of head and chest into arm," while the method of his passing was categorized as a homicide.
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, founded one-third of the Grammy Award-nominated Atlanta-based rap group Migos alongside his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.
The 28-year-old rapper was murdered at approximately 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, following a private party, a shooting erupted outside 810 Billiards & Bowling.
Troy Finnegan, the police chief of Houston, stated that investigators are looking to speak with the forty persons who attended the party and fled after the gunfire.
Finner indicates that at least two individuals fired guns. Two more were wounded by gunshot, but their wounds were not life-threatening, so they were transported in private vehicles to hospitals.
Finner stated that Takeoff was "well-respected" and that there was "no evidence to suggest he was involved in any criminal activity at the time."
Quality Control, the record company for Migos, grieved Takeoff's passing in an Instagram post. The statement read, "another life has been taken by senseless violence, and we are grieved."
The bowling alley is located in a three-story retail complex with upscale restaurants and a House of Blues, close to a Four Seasons hotel, in Houston.
On the first level of the shop complex, a tribute with roses, candles, and a teddy bear had been constructed by fans.
The murder of Takeoff occurred at a time when Houston was in the spotlight because of the Astros' most-watched World Series run since 2019. Additionally, crime has emerged as a key issue in this year's midterm elections.
In Houston, the mayor and police chief recognized such worries while noting that violent crime rates are down from the previous year. Finner stated he would like to meet with other hip-hop artists to discuss violence, although he did not claim Takeoff's death was related to his music.
They had four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, though Takeoff was not featured on their multi-week No. 1 hit "Bad and Boujee," featuring Lil Uzi Vert. They released a trilogy of albums titled "Culture," "Culture II," and "Culture III," with the first two reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Offset, who is married to Cardi B, released a solo album in 2019, but Takeoff and Quavo released "Only Built for Infinity Links" last month.
