The body parts discovered in the mountains have been identified as belonging to Julian Sands, a British actor who vanished while hiking in January of last year.

When Julian Sands' remains were discovered on Saturday, it was determined that he had passed away because they had been positively identified as being his by police.

It happens after hikers claimed on Saturday that they had discovered remains nearby.

The hikers who discovered the remains early on Saturday morning near Mount Baldy contacted the police.

A statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said: "The identification process for the body located on Mt Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood."

"The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results."

"We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to try to locate Mr Sands."

The 65-year-old A Room With a View actor went missing on January 13 in the Bawdy Bowl region of the San Gabriel mountains.

His family believed he was dead because he had not been found despite an extensive search that included drones and helicopters.

On January 13, Mr. Sands left for a hike in the area but never showed up.

Near Mount Baldy, the search only turned up his Volvo car, which was covered in snow. Because of the weather, the effort had to be delayed in March due to concerns over avalanches.

His family recently released a statement in which they said they would keep him "in our hearts with bright memories."

On Wednesday, family members expressed their gratitude to the search teams and coordinators for their tireless efforts in locating Julian.

"We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer."
In the past, his brother Nick Sands told the Telegraph & Argus of Yorkshire that the Baldy Bowl region of the mountains was "his favorite place" in Los Angeles.
