In the Gironde region of southwestern France, over 10,000 hectares are already ablaze.
The regional authorities of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Gironde issued a statement on Saturday stating that more than 12,200 people had been evacuated from the area and more than 1,000 firemen were attempting to contain the fires.
"Given the weather conditions and the important risks of fires starting, the authorities have temporarily blocked access to the forested area for professional and leisure activities," the statement read.
In recent weeks, as temperatures have increased, France and other European nations such as Portugal and Spain have been ravaged by wildfires.
The fires around the Gironde town of Teste-de-Buch have stabilized after consuming more than 3,000 hectares since the beginning of the crisis.
In the nearby town of Landiras, where 6,500 hectares have been destroyed, and 2,200 people have been evacuated, the fires continued to grow overnight, propelled by strong winds from the southwest.
During a news conference on Saturday, Vincent Ferrier, the deputy prefect of Langon in Gironde, stated, "We have a fire that will continue to spread as long as it is not stabilised,"
