Johnny Depp rested his case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation today in the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia.
Amber Heard had previously rested her case on May 24, and her legal team is now launching their rebuttal against him in a countersuit.
Depp, 58, filed a $50 million (£40,1 million) defamation lawsuit against Heard for allegations of abuse she made in a 2018 article for The Washington Post.
Depp's legal team argued that the piece implies he physically and sexually abused Heard during their marriage, despite not mentioning him by name. After Judge Penney Azcarate granted a dismissal petition, Heard is now countersuing for $100 million.
During what are believed to be the last days of the trial, both sides formally rested their cases, indicating that the judge or jury is now ready to decide the conclusion.
Previously, Kate Moss appeared as a rebuttal witness in support of Depp, offering insight into a previous rumor during the model's four-year relationship with Depp in the 1990s.
The supermodel and former lover of Johnny Depp testified by video on Wednesday, May 25.
The 48-year-old was earlier not slated to testify in the case but did so after Heard recalled an altercation using Moss's name that occurred during her testimony.
Earlier in the trial, Heard testified that after an alleged confrontation with Depp and her sister, she was "reminded" of a rumor about Depp supposedly throwing Moss down a flight of stairs; however, Moss has subsequently refuted this claim.
Heard stated in her testimony, "[Whitney's] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her. I didn't hesitate, I didn't wait, and I swiped at him after thinking of Kate Moss and the stairs.
On Friday (May 27), the court will hear the closing arguments in the high-profile case.
