The guy was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon for tackling comedian Dave Chappelle to the stage floor during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The attack on Chappelle, 48, occurred Tuesday night at his sold-out performance as part of the 11-day "Netflix is a Joke" festival, which included a slew of the industry's biggest names.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department representative, the suspect was armed with an imitation handgun equipped with a knife blade when he attacked Chappelle.

Chappelle was joined on stage shortly after the assault by fellow comic Chris Rock, who took the microphone and said, "Was that Will Smith?" - an allusion to his encounter with the Hollywood celebrity during the Oscars' live broadcast March 27.

Chappelle was unharmed by Tuesday's attack and continued with the show, improvising jokes about the situation and the suspect, who was spotted being pursued onstage by security agents.

According to video footage of the confrontation shared online by celebrity news website TMZ.com, Chappelle expressed gratitude that his assailant was "clumsy," adding, "He's back there getting stomped."

Following the incident, photographs of the suspect seated on an ambulance gurney revealed his face was injured, and his right arm seemed to be dislocated or fractured.

He was eventually identified as Isaiah Lee, 23, who was being detained in jail on a $30,000 bond following his arrest.

Lee's court appearance was not scheduled immediately, according to online jail records.

ACCORDING TO THE 'CANCEL CULTURE' CONTROVERSY

Authorities have not released a reason for the incident, which occurred during a routine in which Chappelle, dressed in a business suit, discussed comedians' increased concern for personal safety these days and presented his security guard on stage.

Last year, Chappelle faced outrage for material in his Netflix comedy special "The Closer" that some LGBTQ community interpreted as mocking transgender individuals. The comedian's supporters interpreted the material in question as a protest against "cancel culture."

The comic alluded to the topic from the stage shortly after he was tackled on Tuesday, remarking, "It was a trans man," to the crowd's hilarity.

The incident began as the comedian, hosting a multi-act event dubbed "Dave Chappelle and Friends," acknowledged a producer working at the concert's DJ booth.

The culprit charged onto the stage from the audience and launched his upper body towards Chappelle, ramming his shoulder into the comedian's ribs and chest.

Both men collapsed to the floor before scrambling to their feet, and the suspect fled, briefly pursued by Chappelle. He evaded a mob of onlookers for several seconds before being tackled at the stage's back.

The incident immediately drew analogies to Smith and Rock's Oscar-night altercation, an extraordinary incident at the widely televised event that raised fears that other performers would face copycat assaults.

"As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle continued the show," his spokesperson, Carla Sims, said in a statement on Wednesday, praising Rock and fellow comedian-actor Jamie Foxx for assisting in "calming the crowd."

She stated that following the incident, Chappelle introduced the show's last act, the hip-hop musical group Black Star. Earthquake, Leslie Jones, Jeff Ross, Sebastian, Jon Stewart, and Michelle Wolf were also on the lineup.

Sims stated that Chappelle was "fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation into this incident."

The Hollywood Bowl, one of the city's most prominent entertainment venues, told Reuters the incident was under investigation and declined to speak further.
