A Chinese national Xiang Haitao, who was employed by Monsanto and a subsidiary from 2008 to 2017, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit economic espionage.
He pleaded guilty in a federal court in Missouri and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 7, the Justice Department said in a statement.
According to the US Media, he could face a maximum of 15 years in prison.
He has been charged for conspiring to steal the secrets of the US Agrochemical giant Monsanto "to help the Chinese government," the United States State Department said.
The Agrochemical giant Monsanto in the past has been exposed for its hazardous agrochemical products, especially the seeds which have been a proven danger for the environment and the fertility of the soil.
Though such products have been banned in the richer countries, the farmers in the countries of the third world that rely on agriculture still use such products as they reach them through subsidies at a lower price.
