Fetty Wap was detained at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday (December 17) in response to an ankle monitor alert related to an outstanding warrant.

The arrest was verified to Rolling Stone by a spokeswoman for the Port Authority Police Department, which oversees the airport. "Officers were dispatched to an ankle monitor call in North Bergen, New Jersey," a spokeswoman stated. "After identifying an outstanding warrant, the suspect was transported to our [Central Police Desk], which serves as our primary checkpoint for arrest processing."

Though no additional information was provided, the outstanding warrant connected a public nuisance offense. Fetty Wap was released on bond. His real name is Willie Junior Maxwell.

Maxwell was detained on October 28 on a federal drug charge for allegedly conspiring to import substantial amounts of heroin, fentanyl, and other substances into the New York City metropolitan area. Maxwell was caught at Citi Field baseball park, where he performed as part of the three-day Rolling Loud NYC festival.

Between June 2019 and June 2020, Maxwell and five other individuals were accused of "distributing more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey." The 'Trap Queen' singer entered a not guilty plea to all counts.

"The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rapper and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy demonstrates just how vile the drug trade has become," FBI official Michael J. Driscoll stated at the time.

Maxwell had previously been arrested and charged with various offenses, including a DUI in New York City in 2017 and a misdemeanor charge in 2018. He pleaded guilty to avoid jail time.

He was arrested but not charged in 2019 for reportedly attacking three hotel-casino employees.

Lauren, Maxwell's four-year-old daughter, died in August due to a heart condition. Turquoise Miami, her mother, verified her death a week previously.

In the aftermath, Maxwell turned to social media to offer an emotional tribute to his "little twin."

"Can you do me a favor?" "Just post all butterflies," he stated during an Instagram Live video. Shorty was a butterfly enthusiast. Consider my tiny infant. Consider my miniature twin. "I cherish you."
