According to US media reports, rapper and artist Drake has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
The Canadian singer, a four-time Grammy winner, was up for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance for his sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy and Best Rap Performance for the tune Way 2 Sexy starring Future and Young Thug.
These, however, have been removed from The Recording Academy's website for the awards. Drake has not explained the change.
According to Reuters and the Associated Press reports, the rapper and his management urged The Recording Academy to withdraw his nominations.
The 35-year-old singer has been nominated for 47 Grammys, winning his first in 2013 for Best Rap Album for his second album, Take Care. In 2017, he won two awards for his breakthrough track Hotline Bling - Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance - and followed that up with another win for Best Rap Song in 2019 for God's Plan.
He has, however, previously criticized the awards and expressed his disappointment at not being nominated outside of the rap category.
In 2019, he declined to perform at the ceremony and used his acceptance speech to criticize the awards' significance, saying: "If there are people who work real jobs who come out in the rain and snow to get tickets to your shows, you don't need this right here. As I have stated, you have already won."
The speech was interrupted midway through.
In 2020, Drake chastised the Grammys for failing to nominate fellow Canadian artist The Weeknd despite his massive success that year.
Grammy nominations are determined and voted on by members of The Recording Academy. With 11 nominations, jazz artist Jon Batiste tops the shortlists for the 2022 ceremony, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, H.E.R., Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo.
On Monday, 31 January, the winners will be unveiled in a ceremony in Los Angeles.
