According to the preliminary results of the referendum on the topic, Minneapolis voters voted against the proposal to abolish the city police department.
The city has decided whether or not to replace the police department with the Department of Public Safety, which would bring together social and medical workers with peace officers to take a public health approach to safety.
According to results from 96 of 136 polling stations, 58.41% of voters opposed the initiative, while 41.59 percent supported it.
