Iran's Supreme Leader gets a shot of home-made COVID-19 vaccine

Iran's state media, IRNA, reported that the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was jabbed with the first dose of the Iranian Vaccine on Friday.

The Iranian vaccine is a variant of Russia's Sputnik-V vaccine. Although the vaccine has not been certified by the World Health Organization, Iranian Authorities claim that the vaccine is more than 90% effective.

Iran also opened the vaccination for other elderly Iranians, medical Personnel, Doctors, and Nurses.

Iranian President Hasan Rouhani welcomed the Supreme Leaders'  decision saying it would be an encouragement for the Scientists.

More than 83,000 people have lost their life in Iran due to the COVID-19.

Rouhani also added that the country needs foreign-made vaccines along with Hdomestically manufactured vaccines to meet the country's vaccine demands.

He also added that the vaccine will be exported after it meets the domestic need.
