One of the films planned to premiere at the 2021 Cannes Picture Festival is a new film directed by Sean Penn.

Next month's event will be held in person, but with strong Covid security safeguards in place for guests.

Penn also acts alongside Josh Brolin in Flag Day, which is based on Jennifer Vogel's novel.

It portrays the narrative of a father who, in order to support for his daughter, leads a double life as a counterfeiter, bank robber, and conman.

Into The Wild, The Pledge, and The Crossing Guard are among Penn's earlier directing credits.

Along with Penn's daughter Dylan, Miles Teller and Eddie Marsan will star in Flag Day.

It's one of numerous films that festival organizers announced on Thursday for this year's event, which will take place from July 6 to 17.
