According to reports, Ukrainian forces have bombarded and attacked military compounds in the Russian-occupied province of Donetsk, Ukraine, killing numerous.

According to Russian officials, Ukraine launched the barrage on the eve of the New Year, striking Makiivka and other localities.

On New Year's Eve night, at least 25 rockets were fired at the Donetsk area, according to the Moscow-installed administration of the territory.

High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) rockets were used in the shelling of Makiivka, a critical coal-producing center, according to local officials backed by Moscow and cited by the Russian state news agency TASS. At least 15 persons were injured, according to local officials.

Reuters could not independently verify the reports.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not reply quickly to a request for comment. Its daily report on Sunday stated that it had destroyed seven HIMARS rockets, including some in the Makiivka region.

Daniil Bezsonov, a top Russian-backed official in the Moscow-controlled portions of the Donetsk area, reported an attack on a vocational school, which, according to initial reports, served as military personnel quarters.

He stated that the attack occurred two minutes after midnight on January 1st.

"American MLRS HIMARS handed the vocational school a devastating blow. The actual number of fatalities and injuries is still unknown, "Bezsonov stated via the messaging application Telegram.

The structure itself was severely damaged.

"A Ukrainian drone attack was carried out this morning on the Klimovsky district," Governor Alexander Bogomaz declared through Telegram.

"On-site emergency services are available. Due to the strike, the power supply facility was damaged, and there is currently no electricity."

Reuters could not independently verify the report.

The Klimovsky area of the Bryansk region shares a southern border with Ukraine.
