The US-based pharmaceutical, Pfizer claims that its vaccine is 100% effective in preventing COVID-19 among adolescents from 12 to 16 years.
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said that the company plans to submit results to the US Food and Drug Administration as soon as possible. He said that adolescents below 16 will be able to get vaccinated before the start of school next year.
“We share the urgency to expand the authorization of our vaccine to use in younger populations and are encouraged by the clinical trial data from adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15,” he said in a press release.
The vaccination is said to be 100% effective among the test and the side-effects are reported to be consistent with what has already been seen on the adults.
2,260 participants were enrolled for trials. Pfizer said that the kids from 12-16 showed even more robust antibody response than what had been seen in trials of 16 to 25 years old.
Infectious diseases experts say it is very important to vaccinate children to end the pandemic.
Children cover more than 20% of the US population, and their vaccination becomes crucial to get rid of the Pandemic.
