The White House confirmed on Friday that, it had fired five White House officials over marijuana usage. 

The White House Press secretary confirmed the news via her Twitter handle. The Daily Beast had reported dozens of White House staffers had been fired or asked to resign due to marijuana use.

The firing of five staffers has happened even after announcing a more lenient policy on the drug a few weeks ago.

Jen Psaki tweeted, “We announced a few weeks ago that the White House had worked with the security service to update the policies to ensure that past marijuana use wouldn’t automatically disqualify staff from serving in the White House.” 

“The bottom line is this: of the hundreds of people hired, only five people who had started working at the White House are no longer employed as a result of this policy,”  she subsequently tweeted to confirm the firing of the five staff.
