Five rescues perished in the Philippines after Super Typhoon Noru caused flooding in the country's north and the capital, Manila, and forced many to escape.
Daniel Fernando, the governor of the province of Bulacan, north of Manila, stated that five rescuers perished while using a boat to assist stranded residents.
Before sunset on September 25, Noru struck the shore of Burdeos, Quezon province, before weakening. 74,000 individuals were evacuated in total.
On September 26, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos ordered the shutdown of schools, government agencies, and the stock exchange. In addition, he asked for a swift provision of help and requirements to the most severely impacted regions.
Noru, which struck on September 25 with sustained winds of 195 km/h and gusts of up to 240 km/h, is the biggest storm to strike the nation this year.
On September 26, the typhoon maintained its strength, moving westward across the East Sea at 30 kilometers per hour with gusts of 140 kilometers per hour. The storm is forecast to make landfall in the central area of Vietnam on September 28.
