In the coming weeks, one of Vice President Joe Biden's top staffers, White House communications director Kate Bedingfield, will leave the administration, joining a slew of other departures ahead of the November midterm elections.
In addition to serving in the White House, Bedingfield served as the deputy campaign manager for communications for Biden's 2020 campaign and as the vice president's communications director.
According to a White House official, she now wants to spend more time with her family and husband, who is also a Biden White House alum.
Ron Klain, chief of staff at the White House, said in a statement that Bedingfield "has played a significant role in everything the President has accomplished, from his second term as Vice President, through the campaign, and since entering the White House." She will continue to play an essential role in advancing the Biden agenda from the outside.
The White House did not suggest who will succeed Bedingfield, whose resignation leaves a major void on a communications and press team that has experienced substantial turnover in recent months, including the loss of press secretary Jen Psaki in May.
