A man died early Wednesday after slamming his car into the entrance of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest, police said.
The vehicle drove inside the gate at approximately 6 a.m. but did not enter the embassy compound, according to police in Bucharest.
Before firefighters arrived on the scene, a camera captured the front of the automobile on fire as it remained trapped at the gate. Security personnel was spotted patrolling the area.
It was unknown whether the crash was accidental or intentional. According to authorities, the driver died at the site. Police are investigating the incident and have not released the driver's identity.
Recent demonstrations outside Russian embassies
Several Russian embassies across Europe have been targeted by protesters opposed to the war in Ukraine in recent weeks.
Romania said the previous day that it would remove ten Russian diplomats for violating international regulations.
