After a collision in Bangladesh, a passenger boat carrying more than 100 people capsized, killing at least 21 people and leaving over 50 people missing.

According to authorities, the incident occurred in a huge pond in the Bijoynagar area of Brahmanbaria district.

Officials stated that by Friday night, rescuers had retrieved at least 21 bodies, with survivors reporting that roughly 100 people were on board.

According to local news sources, roughly 50 individuals are missing, according to Hayat-Ud-Dola, the area's chief government administrator.

The boat was attacked by two cargo vessels, according to a witness, and sank swiftly, according to the Dhaka-based The Daily Star newspaper.

“I was grazing cattle on the bank of the pond,” Nurul Amin told the outlet.

“I heard a loud bang and saw cargo ships collide with the passenger trawler. I noticed the trawler swiftly sinking.”

The location lies 51 miles east of Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital.

Bangladesh is a delta country where people and goods are frequently transported by water.
