The US Department of Justice on Wednesday eased off pressure put by the Trump Administration on the popular social media app TikTok.
Citing the national security concerns, Trump Administration had attempted to force the Chinese Video Sharing app be sold to the US Company. Trump said if no deal was reached TikTok would be effectively blacklisted in the United States.
Software company Oracle had teamed up with Walmart to hammer a deal to takeover TikTok's operation in the US. The final deal was never materialized.
Trump administration's cases against TikTok in the federal court is still pending.
Biden Administration has indicated it will do the lawsuits against TikTok in their entirety. On Wednesday, Justice Department lawyer Casen Ross filed motions in two separate but related appeals cases between the federal government.
White House is investigating how and if Chinese-owned technology companies could potentially pose a risk to Americans' privacy and data security.
"A review of the prohibitions at issue here may narrow the issues presented or eliminate the need for this Court's review entirely," Ross wrote.
