A north London school said it was "absolutely horrified" to discover that in its hall there was a wedding attended by about 400 people, broken up by police officers.
The organizer of the wedding faces a fine of £ 10,000, with the Metropolitan Police calling it a "completely unacceptable violation of the law" during the Covid-19 shutdown.
At 9:14 pm on Thursday, the force was called to the state-funded Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls' School in Egerton Lane, Stamford Hill, to find hundreds of people packed together inside the Hackney house. The windows were sealed so that people couldn't see inside.
The official spokesperson for Boris Johnson said that the Prime Minister completely endorsed police action "against people who ignore the rules flagrantly and selfishly."
The school said it didn't know about the wedding. The hall was leased to an external company, but now the deal has been terminated.
