In his upcoming memoirs, Prince Harry discloses royal fistfights with his brother Prince William over Meghan Markle.

In a leaked excerpt of his highly awaited autobiography, Spare, Prince Harry details what he claims was a violent attack by his brother, William, the current Prince of Wales, as their relationship deteriorated over the younger prince's marriage to actress Meghan Markle.

Harry described a confrontation at his London residence in 2019 in which William referred to Meghan as "difficult," "rude," and "abrasive," which Harry characterized as "parrot[ing of] the press narrative" about his American bride.

Harry claims that the disagreement progressed until William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor," causing noticeable bruising to his back.

The Guardian reports that the "extraordinary scene" is "one of many in Spare," which will be released on January 10. According to the publication, the book's title is derived from an old saying in royal and aristocratic circles: that a first son is an heir to titles, power, and wealth, and a second is, therefore, a backup in case the firstborn dies.

Prince Harry writes that William urged him to hit back over Meghan

According to Harry, his older brother desired to share "the whole rolling catastrophe" of their relationship and press troubles.

The Prince of Wales was already "piping hot" when he arrived at Nottingham Cottage, where Harry was residing at the time, on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

The Guardian says, "After William complained about Meghan, Harry writes, Harry told him he was repeating the press narrative and that he expected better."

"But William, Harry says, was not being rational, leading to the two men shouting over each other."

"Harry then accused his brother of acting like an heir, unable to understand why his younger brother was not content to be a spare."

Insults were exchanged between the two men before William claimed he was attempting to assist. Harry considered William's assertions implausible and notified his brother, which angered William.

So much so, Harry says, that the Prince of Wales cursed and advanced, frightening him.

He writes: "(William) called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripped my necklace, and knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. Dazed, I lay there for a moment, then got to my feet and told him to get out.

William begged Harry to strike back, but Harry refused. However, shortly after that, the older brother expressed regret.

On the day of Harry's birth, his father, now King Charles, allegedly said to his wife, Princess Diana, "Wonderful! Now you've given me an heir and a spare – my work is done."

He also describes an agonizing encounter with Charles and William following the April 2021 funeral of Prince Phillip, the queen's spouse, at Windsor Castle.

According to him, Charles stood between his feuding sons, "looking up at our flushed faces." "Please, boys," Harry's father is quoted as asking. "Don't make my final years a misery."

This weekend, two interviews with Harry will air on ITV News at Ten and CBS 60 Minutes in the United Kingdom and the United States. Both interviews are widely anticipated, previews and teasers are published as news, and rumors continue circulating about Harry's book's content.
