Linda Yaccarino, the newly appointed CEO of Twitter, tweeted on Saturday that she is eager to help transform the social media platform after being inspired by Elon Musk's vision to create a brighter future.
It was Yaccarino's first public statement since news broke Thursday that she was in negotiations to become the next Twitter CEO. Musk, who has served as Twitter's CEO since acquiring the company for $44 billion last October, declared her appointment on Friday.
"I've been inspired by [Musk's] vision for a brighter future for quite some time. I'm thrilled to help Twitter realize this vision and transform the business!" Yaccarino sent tweets.
Yaccarino, who spent several years modernizing NBCUniversal's ad business as NBCUniversal's advertising chief for Comcast Corp, stated that she is committed to Twitter's future and that user feedback is essential for the development of Twitter 2.0.
Yaccarino will assume control of a social media platform attempting to rectify a decline in ad revenue and is beset by obstacles and heavy debt.
Since Musk's acquisition of Twitter, advertisers have fled the platform out of concern that their advertisements may appear alongside inappropriate content, as the company has lost nearly 80% of its workforce. Musk acknowledged earlier this year that Twitter's ad revenue had declined significantly.
Musk stated that Yaccarino would assist in developing an "everything app," which he has previously stated could offer various services such as peer-to-peer payments. However, his choice of an advertising veteran indicated that digital advertising would continue to be a central focus of the business.
Musk has long stated his intention to select a new Twitter leader.
Musk, also the CEO of electric-vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc, stated on Friday that Yaccarino's appointment as Twitter's new CEO will allow him to devote more time to Tesla.
