Israeli forces invaded Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque for a second time on Wednesday night after violently assaulting worshippers earlier in the day. At the same time, a Palestinian youngster was shot and injured by a settler in another part of occupied East Jerusalem.

Israeli security officers invaded the mosque following the evening Ramadan Taraweeh prayers. They attacked attendees with sound bombs and rubber bullets before expelling them, according to The New Arab's sister site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Israeli troops assaulted worshippers physically, resulting in confrontations.

A Twitter video showed scores of Israeli soldiers inside the mosque, the third holiest shrine in Islam.

According to eyewitnesses, several Palestinians were hurt and transported to hospitals by local ambulances.

After leaving the mosque, some attendees were attacked by Israeli troops.

During Wednesday's earlier attack, hundreds of Palestinians were detained and injured by Israeli police.

As Palestinians observe the holy month of Ramadan, Israeli forces have deployed in strength in Jerusalem's Old City and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On Wednesday evening, over 20,000 worshippers attended the mosque's Taraweeh prayers.

From the beginning of Ramadan, Israeli troops have attempted to prevent Palestinian worshippers from engaging in the i'tikaf practice of spending nights inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, a settler shot and injured a 14-year-old Palestinian child in the Old City of Jerusalem, where the Al-Aqsa mosque was located.

An eyewitness told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that a gunshot was heard in the neighbourhood, and when locals went to investigate, they discovered that an Israeli settler had shot the teen in hand.

Afterwards, fighting broke out between locals and Israeli forces. During the 1967 Arab-Israeli conflict, Israel occupied Palestinian East Jerusalem.
