According to police, seven people were killed, and one was severely injured in two separate shooting incidents in a seaside village in Northern California on Monday.

Dave Pine, president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, stated that four individuals were slain at a mushroom farm, and three others were killed at a trucking company.

State Senator Josh Becker, who represents the region, stated that the separate shootings occurred on the borders of Half Moon Bay, a city located around 30 miles (49 kilometres) south of San Francisco.

A suspect in the killings has been taken into custody, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office tweeted just before 5 p.m. noting that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The culprit was later identified as Zhao Chunli, 67, Half Moon Bay. After being discovered in his vehicle in the sheriff's substation parking area, he was taken into custody without incident.

Police reported discovering a semi-automatic pistol in his vehicle.

Police stated at a press conference late on Monday that they responded to a shooting complaint at 2:20 p.m. local time. At the Magic Mushroom Farm, they discovered four gunshot-dead corpses. Police told reporters that another person was brought to the hospital with significant gunshot wounds.

Police discovered three more deceased victims at a trucking company on Cabrillo Highway S/Highway 1, south of the mushroom farm.

Pine, on behalf of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, issued the following statement: "We are disgusted by today's tragedy in Half Moon Bay. We have not even been able to mourn the victims of the horrific massacre in Monterey Park. Gun violence must end."

He was alluding to a shooting in Monterey Park, Southern California, where at least eleven people were killed. The shooting occurred late on January 21 at the ballroom dancing facility Star Dance Studio. The following day, Huu Can Tran, 72, was discovered dead in a van in Torrance from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, tweeted that he was "at the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I was pulled away to be briefed on another shooting." In this case, Half Moon Bay. Tragedie surtragédie."
