Nearly two years after the Junta military ousted the then-incumbent NLD leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, in a coup, the Nepalese government, in a shocking move, has recognized the military regime as the rightful ruler of Myanmar.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' acknowledged the cruel military regime. On the 75th Independence Day of Myanmar, which democratic citizens boycotted, President Bhandari and PM Prachanda congratulated the military dictator.
The Nepal government has also wished for the speedy recovery of General Min Aung Hlaing, who now runs a military regime.
The coup d’état on February 1, 2021, was led by General Min, who is directly responsible for the death of more than 2000 protesters, the arrest of 14,000 civilians, and the displacement of 700,000 people.
Apart from Nepal, only Russia and Cambodia sent greetings and wishes to the Junta leader. He has killed thousands of people in the name of 'ethnic cleansing' in different provinces of couped Myanmar.
Nepalese in Burma have said that the neighboring countries India and China, also considered close military allies of Myanmar, have boycotted the barbaric Junta regime.
Burmese have expressed regret following President Bhandari and PM Prachanda's recognition of the Junta Regime. The petition for the PM and President to withdraw their greetings and wishes has already amassed thousands of signatures.
Mahamunishwar Acharya, president of the Nepal Human Rights Organization, has expressed remorse after the Nepal government endorsed the military coup in Myanmar.
Condemning the support of President Bhandari and PM Prachanda, he said, "This is proof that this [Nepal] government is not committed to democracy and freedom."
