The South Korean military asserts that North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea on Saturday.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), they detected launches from Chunghwa County, south of the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang, which traveled approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) before crashing into the sea.

However, the JCS did not provide additional information to the media.

Yonhap News Agency stated, citing a statement from the JCS, "We strongly condemn them and call for an immediate end."

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that our military would maintain a firm readiness posture based on the ability to respond decisively to any North Korean provocation.

The missile launches occurred just one day after South Korea successfully tested its homegrown solid-propellant space rocket.

South Korea's armed forces also conducted military exercises on Thursday after Seoul failed to detect North Korean drones crossing the southern border. This resulted in the closure of two major airports and the scramble of planes and other armories.

In addition, North Korea has committed to strengthening its "self-sufficient defense capability" in the coming year, the country's top leader told the ruling Workers' Party early this week.

Pyongyang's push to maintain its territorial sovereignty coincides with the recent escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula as the United States and South Korea conduct joint military exercises, and North Korea fires dozens of projectiles and missiles.
