Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand, was recently in controversy for referring to the leader of a minor opposition party as a "arrogant prick."

David Seymour, the head of the libertarian Act party, asked Ardern during question time whether she could "provide an example of her making a mistake, apologizing for it appropriately, and rectifying it."

In response to the question, Prime Minister Ardern stated that the public had struggled with managed isolation, a fundamental component of New Zealand's Covid-19 strategy. She stated, however, that she supported the government's efforts during the previous term, despite the move being deemed controversial. After making her case, Ardern sat down next to her deputy, Grant Robertson, and whispered, "What an arrogant jerk!" Just as the microphone was turned on and the comment was audible, speaker Adrian Rurawhe called for the following question.

Seymour approached the speaker and demanded an apology from the prime minister. Seymour also sent Ardern a text message requesting an apology. As my mother would say, 'if you don't have something good to say, don't say it,'" Ardern responded.

Seymour told the Guardian that on some days he is a useless Maori and on other days he is an arrogant jerk.

"The true apology we seek is for New Zealanders concerned about rising prices and ram raids," he continued.
