As stated in Buddhist mythology, a group of Tibetan monks migrated to Baijibara of Upper Dolpo in the 12th century. Shortly after arriving there, those monks started mediation and were enlightened with mystical power.
Since then, followers of the Bon religion assemble in Baijibara every year on the occasion of Bhadau Purnima. Every Buddhist monk hopes to enlighten similarly. And Baijibara worship has become a part of the Buddhist tradition.
As part of continuing the tradition, supporters of the Bon religion assembled in Baijibara to celebrate the Nechhen Rowo Walbhar Festival, also known as the Daldhungo festival in hope of fulfilling their wishes. Under Buddhist tradition, monks circled the same place this year for a week.
Marks of ancient era mediation are still visible around the mediation route in the remote village of Dolpo. Scores of monks are enlightened since the Tibetan monks acquired power through meditation.
In Baijibara, monks celebrated the festival with fanfare in the first week of September. At the same religious function, Rinpoche Ponlop, who is ranked at the second highest position in the rank of the world’s Bon religion, another Rinpoche Tulku, and several other respected monks and nuns were present at the function. Tulku is considered the incarnation of Rinpoche in Barle, Baijibara. A special worship was organized in Syuchal Yungdung Monastery. Participants arriving from various parts of the Himalayan region worshiped there for a week starting from September 3.
After week-long worship, a speech was delivered and Wang was performed. Participants were lucky enough to listen to Wang from the world-famous Rinpoche Pollop. Borle Tulku, Monastery's Rinpoche Khelpo Nima Kunkyap, and several other monks and nuns arriving from Indian monasteries were attractions of the festival. The Mendup worship which lasts for a week is considered one of the most powerful forms of worship in the Buddhist religion.
Religiously, medicine is worshiped while performing Medup. This worship is considered highly meaningful in Buddhism. To attend Mendup worship monks from various countries including the USA, Poland, and Russia arrived in Baijibara. The medicine worshiped in Mendup worship is useful for health.
While performing Mendup worship separate worship was performed at the monastery for the well-being of human society by wishing for world peace and ending suffering. Locals have to perform worship and circumambulation when monks and nuns go for food, lunch, or dinner break.

After worship participants gathered in Fungmochhe and Sangsol and Gonchyod Nangchum was recited on the morning of September 10. On the same occasion, Lama Melha Memorial and Takpa monastery were inaugurated. The next day, Buddhist dance and cultural programs were organized at Yungdung Shyuchhal monastery.

Khempo Ghese Nima Kunkyam Rinpochhe had been working hard to make the festival and worship successful. Locals from Baijibara worked for a week to make the festival successful. Participants were allowed to stay at monasteries and free meals were distributed to ease accommodation problems.
Khempo Ghese Nima Kunkyap said the festival was special because of the arrival of two top monks-- Polnop Rinpoche and Barle Tulku. Foreign monks were also present at the functions. Locals say this was the first time they witnessed the largest number of foreign monks in their village.
