Monday, police detained a woman for allegedly shooting and killing two people and injuring a third in "targeted" attacks in the heart of Atlanta.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., violence broke out inside a condo complex at 1224 West Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta, where the suspect allegedly murdered one of the victims.
As officers arrived minutes later, the lady allegedly fired and injured a third victim a short distance away at 1100 Peachtree St., according to police.
The third victim died of their injuries, according to police.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Atlanta police apprehended an unnamed lady at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport without incident and retrieved a firearm they suspect she used in the attacks.
Before traveling through airport security, the woman was identified and arrested, according to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.
During a press conference, interim Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated, "We do not believe these were random acts of violence; rather, we believe those who were injured today were likely the intended targets."
After determining that one person was responsible for the gunshots, Atlanta Police placed much of the city's bustling Midtown, including the adjoining Colony Square business district, under lockdown. Earlier in the investigation, authorities stated that it was unclear whether the violence was random or targeted.
Police are still investigating the shooting's motivation.
The identities of the person in custody and the victims have not been disclosed.
