Anne Heche's family has stated that she is "not expected to survive" last Friday's crash that left her vehicle engulfed in flames.
In a statement, Heche's family claimed through a spokesman that she had had a "severe anoxic brain injury" and was now being on life support to evaluate if her organs were viable for donation.
The family stated that organ donation had "long been her choice."
The statement added, "We want to thank everyone for their good wishes and prayers for Anne's recovery, as well as the Grossman Burn Center's dedicated staff and wonderful nurses who cared for Anne."
"Unfortunately, Anne Heche had a severe anoxic brain injury in her accident and is in a coma, in critical condition. She has no chance of survival."
The statement said, "Anne had an enormous heart and touched everyone she met with her generosity." "More than her remarkable talent, she viewed sharing kindness and joy as her life's work, particularly advancing acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her brave candor and her light will be sorely missed."
Police told CNN on Thursday that they were examining whether Heche was impaired at the time of the event following a blood draw but that "further testing is necessary to rule out any substances administered in the hospital," officer Annie Hernandez said.
Friday, Heche slammed her automobile into a house in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, close to her residence. According to reports, it took an hour to extinguish the fire produced by the incident.
The house's resident fled unharmed; neighbors informed Fox News that the automobile had plowed through the residence. "Because the windows were smashed, I opened the trunk of the automobile. [Heche] responded that she was not okay, which was difficult. I am aware that they did not remove her from the vehicle until the fire was nearly extinguished."
Heche, 53, is well-known for her roles in films such as Psycho: Remake, Donnie Brasco, and Cedar Rapids.
