Pearl Jam canceled a concert in Vienna on Wednesday after vocalist Eddie Vedder's vocal cords were affected by heat, dust, and smoke from fires at an outdoor venue near Paris.
"We, too, were anticipating a fantastic Pearl Jam performance in Vienna tonight. Nonetheless, due to the harsh conditions at the final outdoor venue outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires), our lead singer Ed Vedder's throat was wounded "Wednesday's Instagram post included a statement from the group.
"He has seen specialists and received treatment, but his vocal cords have not yet recovered. This is devastating information at a terrible time...for everyone involved."
Pearl Jam performed at the Lollapalooza Paris music festival over the weekend while temperatures in southern Europe reached far beyond 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).
Since July 12, firefighters in southwestern France have been trying to contain large forest fires, while the United Kingdom recorded its hottest temperature on Tuesday.
Pearl Jam stated, "Those who work so hard to put on the shows as well as those who give their precious time and energies to attend..., as a band, we are deeply sorry and have tried to find options to still play,"
"Ed desires to play. There is currently no throat available... So terribly, deeply sorry."
The band announced that tickets would be refunded.
Pearl Jam's concert in Vienna on Wednesday as part of their European tour, with their next stop slated for Friday in Prague.
