Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US President Donald Trump, who died on Friday, was killed in an accident, according to the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME).

A police spokeswoman stated that Ivana Trump's body was discovered on the steps of her residence and that foul play is not suspected.

"According to the Medical Examiner, the cause of death was an accident that resulted in blunt impact injuries to her torso. "Now that this determination has been issued, OCME will make no further comments on the investigation," OCME said in a statement.

Ivana was the mother of the former president's three eldest children, Donald jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She assisted him in the construction of several of his most recognizable structures, including the Trump Tower. She was 73 years old when she passed away.

The pair wed in 1977 and separated in 1992.

Trump and two of his children could not be questioned over an inquiry into their business dealings in New York due to her passing.

As of Friday, the ex-president, son Donald jr., and daughter Ivanka were set for depositions, which is the phrase for out-of-court questioning under oath. However, the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James stated that it consented to postpone them due to Ivana's passing.

"We extend our condolences to the Trump family," Delaney Kempner, a representative for James' office, stated.

There were currently no fresh deposition dates.

The attorney for the former president left a message. Alan Futerfas, the attorney for the younger Trumps, declined to comment.

James claims that the Trump Organization overstated the worth of skyscrapers, golf courses, and other holdings to obtain loans, insurance, and other benefits.

Trump has refuted the charges, stating that it is standard practice in the real estate industry to seek the highest possible appraisals. The Republican has described the investigation as a politically driven "witch hunt" by James and other Democrats.

Trump's impeachment loomed as he laid the basis for a future White House candidacy in 2024; he also faced intensifying scrutiny regarding his actions in the 2020 race. Congress is investigating his role in the January 6 Capitol uprising, and Georgia is investigating his efforts to overturn his election loss.

In the meantime, the Manhattan district attorney has been overseeing a parallel criminal investigation of James'.
