During a battle at a bank in British Columbia, Canadian police shot and killed two suspects and injured six police officers; adjacent residences were evacuated after discovering a potential explosive device.
Late Tuesday morning, an emergency response team member arrived at the Bank of Montreal on Saanich, Vancouver Island.
Saanich police stated on their website, "This remains an ongoing incident with a heavy police presence in the area."
Due to a potential explosive device in a vehicle related to the suspects, residences and businesses near the incident location have been evacuated.
Later, police said they were withdrawing the shelter-in-place order, but the block surrounding the bank remained closed due to the suspected bomb.
The suspects were "heavily armed," and initial reports indicated they were wearing body armor, according to Saanich police chief Dean Duthie at a news conference.
Some of the six cops transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds will soon be released. In contrast, others "sustained severe injuries and have undergone surgery," according to police chief Duthie.
A social media video showed police officers and a police dog pursuing a suspect on foot while gunfire rang out. CBC News stated that police asked any witnesses to provide video footage.
According to my knowledge of that hectic, tragic, dynamic, and violent scenario, the fact that no residents were hurt is simply astounding, stated police chief Duthie.
