A Trump campaign strategist told a House select committee investigating last year's Capitol riot that a "drunk" Rudy Giuliani pushed then-President Donald Trump declares victory on election night in 2020 over opposition from other members of the 45th president's inner circle.

During his taped deposition, former Trump campaign strategist Jason Miller stated that he and others insisted that the candidate wait until more ballots were counted before commenting on the election.

Trump, however, disregarded the counsel and embraced allegations advanced by the former mayor of New York City, including that ballots had been stolen and voting machines were rigged.

"I believe it was Mayor Giuliani who suggested that we go ahead and declare victory and say that we won it outright," Miller told the committee.

"I believe that Mayor Giuliani effectively stated, 'We won. It is being stolen from us. Where did all of the votes originate? Miller, whose deposition was presented during Monday's public hearing, continued, "We need to go say that we won and that anyone who disagreed with that position was essentially weak."

Miller responded, during his testimony, that Mayor Giuliani was intoxicated during those conversations.

"The mayor was intoxicated, but I do not know his level of intoxication when, for instance, he spoke with the president," he added.

On Monday, Giuliani released a blanket statement, denying "all falsehoods" he said were being spread about him.

Bill Stepien, Trump's former campaign manager, said he also sought to dissuade Trump from saying fraud had occurred on election night. However, he said the tone shifted after Fox News reported that Trump had lost Arizona, and the president's aides counseled him on his next step.

In his recorded testimony, Stepien stated, "My belief, my recommendation was to say that votes were still being counted and that it was too early to tell, too early to call the race."

He stated that Trump believed he was in the wrong. "He informed me,"

After election night, the Trump campaign was divided into two factions, Stepien explained: "my team and Rudy's team."

"I didn't mind being categorized as a member of Team Normal, as reporters had begun to do around that time... "I've been doing this for 25 years, spanning the political ideologies of Trump, McCain, Bush, and Christie," he stated.

Stepien continued, "I can work under a variety of circumstances for a variety of candidates and politicians... and I think along the way I've built, I hope, a pretty good reputation for being honest and professional, and I didn't think what was happening at the time was necessarily honest or professional."

In his taped testimony, Trump's son-in-law and key adviser Jared Kushner stated that he had warned the president that Giuliani's counsel regarding election challenges was "not the approach I would take if I were you."

Kushner stated that when asked how the president responded, his father-in-law told him, "I have confidence in Rudy."
