In China, nine individuals have been arrested for abusing multiple women in a restaurant.
Friday, around 2:40 a.m., surveillance tape from a restaurant in Tangshan, Hebei Province, captured one of the males approaching a table where four women were seated and placing his hand on one of the women's backs.
She denied him multiple times before he smacked her, prompting her to fight back and resulting in a battle.
A gang of guys entered the restaurant and assaulted the woman and her eating companions by pushing them to the ground, kicking them, and hurling a chair at them.
Outside the restaurant, surveillance footage captured the assailants pulling the woman who had rejected the man's approaches before being attacked in front of bystanders.
Images of her on a stretcher with a bruised and bleeding face and surveillance footage of the incident generated significant outrage on the Internet.
According to an official statement, the nine suspects were all apprehended on Saturday.
Two women sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized for treatment.
According to reports, their condition was stable, while two others sustained minor injuries.
One of the first Weibo users to publish it called it "heartbreaking," adding, "Does this indicate that dining out is now so dangerous that we must always bring guys with us? (These dudes) are identical to thugs."
By Sunday, the video had been viewed over 68 million times, and the video of the assault had been removed.
Social media users have condemned the attack and criticized Tangshan police for being reluctant to apprehend the culprits. At the same time, the event has also reignited the discussion over how women are treated in China.
In January of this year, another popular video depicted a lady tied to the wall of a hut, sparking outrage after officials denied she was a victim of human trafficking.
It was eventually discovered that she had been sold as a bride.
