According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), on Wednesday, former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was charged with two counts of indecent assault in the United Kingdom.
The CPS stated that it had approved the Metropolitan Police to charge the 70-year-old former film mogul following an assessment of the investigation's evidence.
Two attacks allegedly committed against one female complainant in London in August 1996 are the subject of the charges.
According to a Metropolitan Police statement, the woman is now in her fifties.
Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, stated that the CPS "reminds all parties that criminal proceedings are ongoing and that the defendant is entitled to a fair trial."
Weinstein, who with his brother Bob co-founded the American entertainment business Miramax, was a renowned film producer whose credits include "Kill Bill," "Good Will Hunting," and "The Lord of the Rings."
Weinstein was indicted less than two weeks after American actor Kevin Spacey was charged with sexual assault in the United Kingdom.
The Metropolitan Police announced on May 26 that the 62-year-old "House of Cards" actor was charged with four charges of sexual assault against three men and one offense of inducing a person to engage in non-consensual sexual behavior.
