Wednesday, US President Joe Biden advocated for additional gun purchases and ownership limitations.

Biden stated, about the constitutional amendment that grants Americans the "right to bear arms," "The Second Amendment is not absolute." It became illegal to own a cannon when it was passed, and specific weaponry was prohibited. There have always been restrictions.

The provision, which is part of the Bill of Rights from 1791, states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Biden spoke one day after 21 people were slain in an attack on an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

It occurred just days before the annual conference of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the most influential gun lobby in the United States, was set to take place in Houston, Texas.

Governor Greg Abbott, Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and others were set to speak at the conference.

After a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, in early May, the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives enacted legislation to combat domestic terrorism, which was debated in the Senate on Thursday after a procedural vote.

Governor of Texas blames mental health, rejects gun control

Wednesday, during a news event, Texas Governor Greg Abbott disclosed new information regarding the shooter.

He reported that the 18-year-old shooter wrote in separate Facebook private messages 30 minutes before the attack that he had "shot his grandmother" and planned to "shoot up an elementary school."

A Facebook representative stated that the posts were "were private one-to-one text messages that were discovered after the terrible tragedy occurred."

During Abbott's briefing, a rival Democrat heckled the Republican governor over his position on gun control.

Beto O'Rourke, who ran for the Democratic presidential candidacy in 2020 and is now battling Abbott for his job in forthcoming elections, yelled, "You are doing nothing, you are offering us nothing."

"You stated that this is unpredictable and thisrely foreseeable, said O'Rourke.

In response, a voice from the stage with Abbott said, "Sir, you are out of line," and referred to O'Rourke using an expletive.

As he was escorted out of the room, O'Rourke turned back, pointed his finger, and said, "This is on you until you choose to do something different."

Abbott later stated that more vital gun control legislation is not a "real solution."

"The ability of an 18-year-old to buy a long gun has been in place in the state of Texas for more than 60 years," he stated, asserting that the state had "not had episodes like this." in those six decades.

He continued, "The one thing that has substantially changed is the status of mental health in our communities,"

21 deaths

Tuesday's attack claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers.

As part of the countdown to the summer break, the school hosted a series of themed days. Tuesday's theme was "Footloose and Fancy," and students were to wear fancy attire.

According to her family, Amerie Jo Garza, who had just celebrated her 10th birthday earlier this month, was one of the victims.

On Tuesday, her father, Angel Garza, had not heard from her for hours. "I don't ask for much or hardly even post on here, but please it's been 7 hours and I still haven't heard anything on my love," he posted on Facebook beside a photo of him embracing his smiling daughter.

Several hours later, he wrote again: "Thank you everyone for the prayers and help trying to find my baby," "My little love is now flying high with the angels above."

What were the surrounding circumstances of the shooting?

Authorities reported on Wednesday that the shooter used an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle and confined himself inside a classroom with the victims before opening fire.

Chris Olivarez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told CNN that officers surrounded the school and smashed windows to rescue students and faculty.

Officers eventually invaded the classroom and killed the shooter, who was identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shortly after that.

Investigators have yet to determine the motivation behind the incident, which left 17 people injured.

Governor Abbott stated that Ramos, a resident of the small community located approximately 85 miles (134 kilometers) from San Antonio, had no criminal record or history of mental illness. On Wednesday, US media sources, citing individuals close to him, revealed that some warning indications were known, if not to authorities.
