Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States (US), will visit Romania and Slovakia between May 5 and May 9, where she will meet with displaced Ukrainian families as well as US service members and embassy personnel, government officials, or humanitarian aid workers, Reuters reported.

On Friday, May 6, Jill Biden will meet with US military service members at Mihail Kogalniceau Airbase in Romania. She will then head to Bucharest, where she will hold meetings with Romanian government officials, US embassy staff, humanitarian aid workers, and teachers working with displaced Ukrainian children.

Next, the first lady will travel to Slovakia, where she will visit the cities of Bratislava, Kosice, and Vysne Nemecke and meet with government officials, refugees, and aid workers.

According to May 1 data from the Romanian Border Police, more than 836,000 Ukrainian citizens crossed the border into Romania since the Russian invasion started on February 24. However, most transit the country, traveling further to other countries, mainly Western Europe.

Most of the refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine are women and children.
