Officials confirmed on Saturday that thirteen people were murdered after their van crashed and fell into a ditch on a highway in central Mexico, with another ten people wounded.
According to the Jalisco state emergency services department, seven of the individuals who perished were first trapped inside the automobile.
During a season when Catholic pilgrims frequently visit a shrine in the adjacent town of San Juan de Los Lagos, the disaster occurred near the city of Lagos de Moreno, on a roadway that connects the central states of Guanajuato and Jalisco.
A huge black vehicle crashed onto its side in a deep rut along the roadway, with what seems to be a cracked windshield, according to photos from the emergency services agency.
According to the agency, 12 individuals died at the scene of the tragedy, including two children, and another died later in hospital.
