Air travel in the United States has remained seriously interrupted, with inclement weather in some areas compounding the impact of a massive rise in Covid-19 infections fueled by the Omicron strain.

According to FlightAware's flight-tracking website, the United States had 2,723 canceled flights, accounting for more than half the 4,698 worldwide.

Additionally, 5,993 domestic flights, out of 11.043 worldwide, were delayed on Saturday.

According to the site, the worst-affected airline in the United States was SkyWest, which was forced to cancel 23 percent of its daily schedule.

Chicago's airports heavily struck

In the United States, Chicago's airports were particularly heavily struck by inclement weather, with a snowstorm forecast for Saturday afternoon and into the night.

The worldwide airline sector is still reeling from the Omicron variant's extreme contagiousness.

Numerous pilots, flight attendants, and other personnel have been absent from work due to contracting Covid-19 or being quarantined after coming into touch with someone who has the infection.
