President Joe Biden of the United States of America thinks one circumstance could persuade him to run again in 2024: a rematch with 2020 competitor Donald Trump.

"That would increase the prospect of running," Biden said Wednesday to ABC News.

When asked if he would seek re-election, the 79-year-old Democrat said affirmatively.

"But look," he said. "I have a great deal of respect for fate. Fate has intervened numerous times in my life. If I'm in the state of health that I am today, if I'm in good health, I would run again."

And if that means rematching with 75-year-old former President Trump, who last year started a no-holds-barred campaign against Biden?

"You're trying to tempt me now," Biden smiled.

"Sure, why would I not run against Donald Trump if he were the nominee?"

Trump has continued to assert falsely that his defeat to Biden in the 2020 election resulted from voting fraud and that the election was "stolen" from him.

Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6 as Congress declared Biden's presidential victory.

Though Kamala Harris, Biden's second-in-command, was previously considered a possible political successor, there are uncertainties about her political future amid reports that the president and vice president's relationship is strained.

Harris, 57, appears to be struggling to find her place at the White House, where she has been tasked with several compassionate missions, including minority voting rights and migration.

Meanwhile, Trump has made numerous allusions to another prospective White House run but has yet to disclose his intentions.
