Man strangles his wife to death because she 'failed' to bear him a son

A husband has killed his wife for not birthing a son in the Dhanusa district of Nepal. The victim's family has alleged that Lal Babu Safi, 35, of Sabaila, Dhanusa strangled his wife Ajmeri Khatun, 30, to death.

Mohammad Alam, the deceased's father, said that Safi, his sister Nur Jaha Khatun, and brother Manzur Safi had been verbally and physically abusive to Ajmeri, who got married to Safi 13 years ago.

He alleged that Safi, on the night of October 25, after drinking alcohol,  strangled and killed his daughter, who was sleeping at home. He said that bruises were seen all over the body, including the neck of the deceased. Gulshan Khatun, the victim's mother, alleged that the police did not arrest the culprit.

Rajesh Sigdel, Superintendent of Regional Police, said that they had arrested Lal Babu Safi, husband of the deceased, immediately after the incident. Stating the search is on for more people responsible for the incident, Sigdel said, "The investigation of the incident has been affected due to the festival. We will now expedite the investigation."
