According to an immigration official in Bali, an American lady who was recently freed from prison after serving part of a 10-year term for her role in her mother's death will be deported to her home country on Tuesday (November 1).
Heather Mack, a Chicago native, was sentenced to prison in 2015 with her lover Tommy Schaefer for murdering her mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, and stuffing her body inside a bag on the Indonesian island of Bali.
Arrested in 2014 in a case that drew international notice due to its graphic nature, Schaefer was sentenced to 18 years in prison for premeditated murder in 2015, while Mack, then 19, was sentenced to 10 years in jail for being an accessory to murder.
Mack was freed from prison last week after receiving a 34-month remission for good behavior, according to Ms. Lili, the Kerobokan prison's chief for female inmates.
According to Indonesian legislation, Mack is now being deported, according to immigration official Putu Surya Dharma.
"She's served her punishment and her permits expired," he said, adding that Mack's flight was scheduled to depart on Tuesday evening and that she will arrive at O'Hare Airport in Chicago.
Mack had already given birth to a child when she was condemned.
Yulius Benyamin Seran, Mack's lawyer, told Reuters that the child would be returning to the United States with her.
When asked about other aspects of her deportation, the attorney said: "That is a topic I am unable to address. I'll be able to respond after I meet with Heather before she's deported."
