The confirmation of the claim would mean Taliban has taken over control of the all 34 Afghan Provinces
According to the Taliban's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, the group has gained total control of Panjshir province, the only remaining territory of Afghanistan controlled by resistance fighters.
On Monday, pictures on social media showed Taliban militants standing in front of the Panjshir province governor's compound's gate.
The National Resistance Forces have said it will continue fighting in the region and has also claimed it is present in strategic positions of the country.
The resistance forces said, “the struggle against the Taliban and their partners will continue”.
The National Resistance Front (NRF) recognized significant fighting losses and asked for a ceasefire earlier on Monday, as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken went to Qatar to try to deal with the chaos that has followed the US exit from Afghanistan.
The NRF proposed in a statement “that the Taliban stop its military operations in Panjshir … and withdraw its forces”.
“In return, we will direct our forces to refrain from military action,” said the statement, as per the reports by the AFP.
Local soldiers loyal to Ahmed Massoud, the son of the legendary anti-Soviet and anti-Taliban leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, as well as Afghan military remnants who withdrew to the Panjshir Valley, some 125 kilometers (78 miles) north of Kabul, make up the NRF.
Separately, the organization stated in a tweet on Sunday that the recent battle had killed spokesperson Fahim Dashty, a well-known Afghan journalist, and General Abdul Wudod Zara.
The NRF has stated that it will fight the Taliban, but that it is also prepared to talk with them. However, the first interaction did not result in a breakthrough.
Former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who is holed out in Panjshir alongside Ahmad Massoud, has warned of a humanitarian crisis, with thousands “displaced by the Taliban onslaught”.
