Kanye West, the rapper and millionaire fashion designer, has requested a Los Angeles court to legally change his name to Ye.

The 44-year-old cited "personal reasons" in court paperwork for the name change, which is now awaiting a judge's permission.

West has long gone by the moniker Ye, which was also the title of his 2018 album, which featured the hits "Yikes" and "All Mine"

"The being formally known as Kanye West I am YE." he tweeted in September of that year, expressing his wish to shorten his name.

The rapper also claimed that the term had religious significance for him, stating that it was the most regularly used word in the Bible.

West is rumored to be close to releasing Donda, his tenth studio album, which will be dedicated to his late mother.

This week, he'll host a listening party in his hometown of Chicago to celebrate the release of the album.

However, the record was not released despite two identical instances.

The fashion designer, who founded the Yeezy shoe line, is currently divorcing Kim Kardashian West, a fellow millionaire.

In February, she filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their nearly seven-year marriage.

They are the parents of four children.
