According to German officials, gunfire at one of Kabul's international airport's gates has killed at least one Afghan soldier, adding to the chaos that has engulfed Western efforts to evacuate people fleeing the Taliban's takeover of the country.
The shooting occurred as the Taliban dispatched fighters north of the capital to eliminate pockets of armed opposition to their lightning takeover earlier this month.
The Taliban claimed to have retaken three districts taken over by opponents the day before and to have surrounded Panjshir, the last province not under their control.
